A truly unique and high-design estate, the Bear Ridge Property in Eureka Springs, Arkansas will appeal to the discerning buyer on many different levels. Consisting of three architect designed buildings, Bear Ridge is the ideal fusion of both rustic and modern styles. Featuring a 1,506 square-foot luxury cabin home with 2 bedrooms, 2.5 baths and designer details throughout, which include an oversized 780 sqf RV garage with room for multiple vehicles or business equipment, a massive 3,316 sqf design studio with an additional living space, pre-plumbed and wired for a full kitchen. This brings the total number of living spaces to 3 bedrooms, 4.5 baths, and 2 kitchens, between the house and studio.

The Bear Ridge Property is more than rammed earth, wood, and steel, it's a respite from the grind of the world, a rebuke to the planned obsolescence of the modern builder. The realty sits in the heart of the Ozark Mountains, perfectly situated just seven minutes from downtown Eureka Springs and five minutes from Beaver Lake. World-class mountain bike trails are less than a minute away, and the legendary Thorncrown Chapel is just a minute farther down the road.

The warmth and texture of the rammed earth strata layers are juxtaposed by the crisp, clean lines of the architecture. The studio and RV garage have suggestions of Japanese details intermingled with native Ozark vernacular. The Calx Cabin is decidedly modern without being cold or sterile. It's wabi-sabi modern - pared down to its barest essence, wabi-sabi is the Japanese art of finding beauty in imperfection and profundity in nature.

"The Japanese view of life embraced a simple aesthetic that grew stronger as inessentials were eliminated and trimmed away." — Tadao Ando, architect

What is Rammed Earth?

Rammed earth, in today's market, is considered a premier material for luxury homes. Rammed earth has been used in construction for thousands of years, with evidence of its use dating as far back as the Neolithic Period. Commonly used especially in China, the technique was applied to both ancient monuments and vernacular architecture, with the Great Wall utilizing the technique. Interest in rammed earth has surged in recent years due to its sustainability in comparison to more modern construction methods. Most notably, rammed earth structures use local materials, meaning they have low embodied energy and produce little waste.

THE PROCESS

A mixture of damp earth and high performance admixtures are filled into reusable forms. Once compacted, this soil blend creates structural rammed-earth walls, which will last for thousands of years without the need for maintenance.
